The Teen Poetry Contest has officially begun!
Deadline: April 16, 5:00 PM
Students in grades 6 – 12 should submit their typed poems with contact information (name, address, phone number, grade, and school) to Wood Library, 134 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY or email them to jgoodemote@pls-net.org. Home schooled children are welcome to submit. Rules and guidelines are as follows:
• 1st place $50, 2nd Place $40, 3rd Place $30
• Middle School Category: Grades 6 – 8.
• High School Category: Grades 9 - 12.
• The poem must be the poet’s original work and TYPED on 8 ½” x 11” paper. Five copies of the poem must be submitted. • Name, address, phone number, grade, and school should be listed on a separate piece of paper than the poem. This information must not appear on your poem.
• Wood Library employees & contest judges are not eligible to participate.
• One entry per person.

Magic the Gathering Basics Class

Ever wanted to learn how to play Magic the Gathering? Matt and AJ, two Magic fanatics, will teach you the basics of this popular card game on Saturday, March 20 from 12-4 PM at Wood Library. Learn how to use and build your own deck, including how to create one designed to meet your specific needs and use to your full advantage. Registration required. For grades 6-12. 16th Annual Teen Poetry Contest
March 15-April 16


The Annual Teen Poetry Contest has returned. Beginning March 15, teens are encouraged to showcase their writing talents by submitting poems to Wood Library. The deadline for the 16th Annual Teen Poetry Contest is April 16 at 5 PM. No exceptions. Watership Down Events

Watership Down—The Film
Thursday, March 18. 6:00-8:00 PM
During Anime Club in March, watch a classic animated film based on the beloved book by Richard Adams. Follow a warren of Berkshire rabbits as they flee their destructed home in search of a new, safe haven, skirting danger at every turn. The movie is rated PG, but is recommended for ages 13 and older. Snacks and drinks provided. Prizes given away! Families welcome.

Watership Down—The Book
Thursday, April 1. 6:00-7:00 PM
Start at the beginning by reading the book! Families, teens, and older children are encouraged to attend this program to discuss the ideas mentioned in Richard Adams’ Watership Down, like freedom, ethics, and human nature. Hot drinks and snacks based on the book will be provided.

Watership Down—The Music
Saturday April 3. 12:00-1:00 PM
Discover one man’s interpretation of Watership Down through music. Bernie Talty, music teacher at Rossi Music in Canandaigua and the star of a one-man-band called Skull, will perform music from his latest CD, Efrafan, a concept album completely dedicated to the story of Watership Down. All ages welcome.

Lovin' Your Oven

It’s the 4th Annual Lovin’ Your Oven! Your mission: To bake the best darn cookies that Canandaigua has ever tasted. Your goal: To be named Canandaigua’s Best Teen Baker for 2010 and win a $50 gift card to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, a $25 Wegmans gift card, or a $10 gift certificate to Phoenix Coffee. Three local tasters will decide your fate as they vote on their favorite cookie based on flavor, texture, taste, and presentation. What You Need to Do: Register at Wood Library, bake your famous cookies and bring them and the recipe* to Wood Library on Saturday, January 16 from 11:45AM – 1:30PM (Judging begins at noon). *Recipes will be available for purchase to help raise money for Wood Library.
