Summer Murder Mystery Reading Club*
Sign up only once starting July 2, 2007
Read books this summer to solve the Murder Mystery of the year! Who dunnit? Mr. E, a librarian at Wood Library, was found dead in the library. Discover the murderer by reading! Sign-up for Wood Library's Teen Summer Reading Program will officially begin on July 2 at 7 PM at Wood Library's "Make Your Own Sundae Party"! After you make your very own ice cream sundaes, sign-up for summer reading and be on your way to solve the crime of the century (and win prizes, of course!). Every book read earns a clue to help solve the crime and an entry into a weekly drawing for great prizes liek passes to Seabreeze Amusement Park, a $25 giftcard to Wal-Mart, and zoo admission. Compile clues to make an accusation and enter into the Grand Prize Drawing for the Nintendo DS at the end of the summer! No deadline!

Teen Summer Book Discussion with John Michalko*
Wednesday Nights, June 27, July 25, August 29 - 8 PM
How much power should the government hold over you? Read books that push the boundaries politically, socially, and morally and then join Canandaigua Teacher John Michalko and Young Adult Librarian Jenny Goodemote as they discuss the controversial issues raised in each. Discussions will take place on July 18, August 15, and August 22 at 8 PM. For grades 8-12.

Keep your acting skills sharp over the summer! Take part in this summer’s Teen Theater! Scott Schauman, a Drama Teacher from Canandaigua Academy and director of this year's Wood Library's Teen Theater, will be holding auditions on Thursday, July 5 from 7-8:30 PM and Friday, July 6 from 3-5 PM at Wood Library. Be dramatic! Must attend performances on July 20 & July 21.
Teen Summer Movie Night with John Michalko

Watch great films from different genres and hang out and discuss them with John Michalko...could summer get any better? Films are shown every Tuesday night from July 10 until August 14 starting at 6 PM.

Comic Creation and Publishing Workshop*July 23-July 27—10-2 PM

See your comics in print! A popular summer program has returned once again! Join forces with other teens in creating your very own comic book at the Comic Creation and Publishing Workshop at Wood Library! From July 23 - July 27, learn how to write and ink a comic strip with the guidance of Michael Churchill, a professional writer, and Ken Wheaton, a professional artist. Meets every day from 10-1 PM. Participants are recommended to bring a lunch. Limited to 20 students in grades 6-12.
Harry Potter Lock-In* 
Friday, July 27—8 PM in the locked library!
Celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in theaters and the release of the final Harry Potter book by competing in Harry Potterish events. Decorate and race your own brooms, eat pizza and endless other snacks, toss gnomes, mix your own "drinkable" potions, and play Harry Potter trivia games - all while the library is closed! How else would you rather spend your Friday night? Teens only! Must have parent's permission. Lock-In starts on Friday, July 27 at 8 PM, and ends on Saturday, July 28 at 7 AM.
Concrete Hip-Hop* 
August 6-August 17

Learn how to dance! Concrete Hip-Hop uses the medium of music and dance to promote cultural diversity and self-confidence to approximately 20 teens. From August 6 to August 16, learn about the history and background of hip-hop and unique dance moves associated with hip-hop from professional choreographer, Youmie Francois. The program will conclude with a public performance at Wood Library on Friday, August 17 at 1 PM.
Makin’ Music Songwriting Workshop*
Saturday, August 25—10-12 PM

Develop and further your songwriting skills by attending Wood Library's Makin' Music Workshop. Musician Geoffrey Clough will teach teens about different styles of music and teens will create their own temporary music group in which they and their group members compose a song in one of the many genres of music - Rock and Roll, R+B, Rap, etc. Both musicians and non-musicians are welcome. Hear your song come to life!
The Recording Studio Experience* 
Saturday, August 25—1-4 PM
FLCC Recording Studio
Want your very own song on a CD? On Saturday, August 25 from 1-4 PM, check out the Recording Studio Experience in which teens get a firsthand look at the inside of a real state-of-the-art recording studio at Finger Lakes Community College. After a tour and pizza, teens will be able to record a song or performance of their choice. Participants must have transportation to and from the studio and must have parents signed permission. Participants must also have their be well prepared to record because of time restraints.
Pizza Taste-Off & End of the Summer Party 
Friday, August 31—3-4 PM

Summer is over, but that doesn't mean we have to act like it! On Friday, August 31 at 3 PM, join others at Wood Library at the End of Summer Reading Party and Pizza Taste-Off. After voting on which pizzeria has the best crust, sauce, cheese, and overall taste in town, find out the Grand Prize Winner for this year's Murder Mystery Reading Program. Think you know who has the best pizza in town? Accept the challenge at the Pizza Taste-Off. You don't have to be a participant in the Summer Reading Program to sample some pizza!
