The Big Read is coming to Canandaigua!
Look for it May 2008-June 2008

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced that Wood Library is one of 127 libraries, municipalities, and arts, culture, higher education, and science organizations to receive a grant to host a Big Read celebration of one of 16 classic novels from January to June of 2008. In partnership with South Bristol Cultural Center and in collaboration with other nonprofit organizations and schools within Canandaigua, Wood Library is planning a month-long series of events beginning in May 2008 to promote community wide reading and to stimulate and revive interest in F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic work, The Great Gatsby. Events will include the "Great Gatsby Gala" at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion, 1920s walking tours of homes in downtown Canandaigua, a 1920s fashion exhibit, a film series, jazz concerts, a one-woman performance about the life of Zelda Fitzgerald, a car show, Charleston dance classes, and book discussions. A sunset cruise aboard the Canandaigua Lady will conclude Canandaigua's Big Read. Watch for more information. Any questions can be emailed to Jenny Goodemote at jgoodemote@pls-net.org.
