Lovin' Your Oven Winners Announced!

The Best Teen Baker of 2009 was determined on Saturday, January 17 at Wood Library's annual teen baking contest, Lovin' Your Oven. This year's mission was to bake the best darn brownies Canandaigua has ever tasted. It was a very diffcult task for judges Renee Daldry from the New York Wine and Culinary Center, Stephanie Sellinger from Wegmans Bakery, and Kelly Jo Martin from Buttercups Bakery. Ryan Fordham walked away with the Grand Prize of a $50 gift card to Williams Sonoma for his modified Peanut Butter Brownies. A Black Bean Brownie recipe made with natural nectar and other healthy ingredients earned Ryan Yourch the Second Place prize of a $25 gift card to Wegmans. Last year's Best Teen Baker, Olivia Key, was awarded Third Place, a gift certificate to Buttercups Bakery, for her German Chocolate Brownies. Tasters were encouraged to spread the frosting on thick! It was a very close competition and each brownie entry was as delectable as the last. Congratulations and thank-you to everyone who participated! Hope to see you next year with a fresh batch of cookies! A special thank-you to Wegmans and Buttercups Bakery for donating the prizes and to the judges for donating their time.
